The French media has been camped outside of Cedars Sinai hospital in Los Angeles for days after rocker Johnny Hallyday (nicknamed the French Elvis) was treated for an infection allegedly received during an operation for a slipped disc in Paris.
Doctors put Hallyday (66) in an induced coma so he could undergo two operations. According to his spokesperson, the singer, whose real name is Jean-Philippe Smet, awoke from his comma last night and was talking with friends and family.
With a career that began in the 60s, Hallyday sold more than 100 million albums and played 45 major tours, selling out at stadiums. He was due to go on a farewell tour starting January 8.
